This Privacy Policy explains what information Acceptly collects, how we use and share it, and the choices and rights you have. Because Acceptly is built for high-school students applying to college, we take the privacy of student and minor data seriously.

1. Who we are

"Acceptly", "we", "us", or "our" refers to the operator of the Acceptly application and website (the "Service"). If you have any questions about this policy, contact us at sahoo.ayush23@gmail.com.

2. Information we collect

Information you provide directly. When you create an account and use the Service, you may provide:

• Account information, your name, email address, and password, or the name, email, and profile photo shared by Google when you sign in with Google.
• Academic and application profile, information you choose to enter, such as your GPA, class rank, course rigor, test scores (SAT/ACT/AP/IB and others), intended major, extracurricular activities, honors and awards, essays and drafts, your college list, application status, and recommender details.
• Personal and demographic details, such as graduation year, date of birth, phone number, mailing address, citizenship or residency, first-generation status, and (only if you choose to share it) demographic information like ethnicity or gender.
• Financial-planning information, such as household income range, FAFSA/CSS status, and aid preferences, used to estimate costs and compare financial-aid offers.
• Content you submit, including profiles or results you publish or add to community features (e.g., Admitted Students).
• Communications, messages you send us and your email/notification preferences.

Information collected automatically. Like most online services, we may collect limited technical data such as your device and browser type, general location inferred from your IP address, and basic usage information to keep the Service secure and working.

Local storage. Acceptly is "local-first", much of your workspace is stored in your own browser (via localStorage and IndexedDB) so the app is fast and works for you. This data stays on your device unless it syncs to your account.

3. How we use your information

• To provide, personalize, and improve the Service, including building your college list, estimating admission chances, comparing financial-aid offers, organizing deadlines, and powering the AI advisor.
• To create and secure your account and sync your data across devices.
• To communicate with you about your account, respond to requests, and (with your consent where required) send product updates.
• To maintain the safety, integrity, and security of the Service and prevent abuse.
• To comply with legal obligations.

We do not sell your personal information, and we do not use your essays or profile to train our own advertising or marketing models.

4. AI features

Some features (such as the AI advisor and admissions reads) send relevant parts of your workspace, for example your profile summary, school list, and questions, to a third-party AI provider to generate a response. That provider processes the request to return an answer and, under our arrangement, does not use it to train its models. Please avoid entering information into AI features that you would not want processed this way.

5. How we share information

We share personal information only as described here:

• Service providers. Vendors that host and run the Service on our behalf, for example our hosting and database provider (Supabase), our web hosting provider (Vercel), our authentication provider (Google, if you use Google sign-in), and our AI provider. They may process your data only to provide services to us.
• Content you choose to make public. If you publish your profile or add a profile to a community feature, the information in it becomes visible to other users. Don't publish anything you want to keep private.
• Legal reasons. When required by law, subpoena, or to protect the rights, safety, or property of Acceptly, our users, or others.
• Business transfers. In connection with a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, subject to this policy.

6. Students and minors

Acceptly is intended for high-school students who are at least 13 years old. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you are under the age of 18 (or the age of majority where you live), you should review this policy with, and use the Service with the involvement of, a parent or legal guardian, and you represent that you have their permission to use the Service.

If you are a parent or guardian and believe your child has provided us personal information without appropriate consent, contact us at sahoo.ayush23@gmail.com and we will delete it. If any student educational records are handled through the Service, we support the applicable rights of students and families to access and correct that information.

7. Your rights and choices

Depending on where you live (including under laws like the GDPR and CCPA/CPRA), you may have the right to:

• Access the personal information we hold about you.
• Correct inaccurate information (you can edit most of it directly in the app).
• Delete your account and associated data, available in Settings, or by contacting us.
• Export a copy of your data (available in Settings).
• Object to or restrict certain processing, and withdraw consent where processing is based on consent.

8. Data retention

We keep your information for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide the Service. When you delete your account, we delete or de-identify the personal information associated with it, except where we must retain it to comply with legal obligations, resolve disputes, or enforce our agreements. Data stored locally in your browser is removed when you clear it or reset your workspace.

9. Security

We use reasonable technical and organizational measures, including encryption in transit and access controls, to protect your information. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.

10. International users

We operate in the United States and may process and store your information there and in other countries where our providers operate. By using the Service, you understand your information may be transferred to and processed in countries whose data-protection laws may differ from those in your country.

11. Third-party links

The Service links to colleges' official sites and other third-party resources. We are not responsible for the privacy practices of those sites; please review their policies.

12. Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we make material changes, we will update the "Last updated" date and, where appropriate, notify you. Your continued use of the Service after changes take effect means you accept the updated policy.
